Scotland is laced with an endless network of world-class trail running terrain with drovers’ roads and stalkers’ paths that have been in use for centuries.
Whether it is a point to point crossing of Scotland or a weekend exploring the finest local trails we will help you to find the best running and an adventure to suit any level.
On all of our guided trips we will travel as a group, finding a pace that suits everyone and allows us time to take in our magnificent surroundings. This is not a race but a mountain running experience.
Level 1: This course is designed to suit all levels of running ability and fitness. If you can run 5k without stopping you should be fine. We may cover up to 8km during a session, but this will include a good amount of walking the hills and taking time to work on the skills.
Level 2: This trip is all about the adventure and we will find a pace that keeps the team together and allows time to enjoy our surroundings including food breaks and a chance for photos. A good level of mountain walking fitness along with a base of off road running experience up to steady 20km runs will help you to get the most out of the weekend. We would expect to walk the hills and run the flat and downhill sections.
Level 3: These courses include single days with reasonable distance and elevation. We would expect to walk the steeper climbs and run the rest. The main requirement is good stamina to complete a 6 hour mountain day, or to maintain good steady running over multiple days.
Level 4: These are our most challenging courses. Often including a combination of longer distances and ascent over multiple days. They require a good base of experience of multi-day running and good conditioning to deal with rough terrain.
Level 1: These courses will stick to well defined trails without noticeable technical difficulty. They are chosen to be suitable for all levels of trail running experience.
Level 2: These courses will use obvious trails, but these might include sections that require some basic technical running skills. Dealing with loose surfaces, rock or root obstacles or steeper sections.
Level 3: These routes will include sections that require good levels of agility and footwork to traverse smoothly. Most runners might need to walk short sections across boulders or down steep descents.
Level 4: Challenging routes that will include sustained sections of awkward terrain. This may include muddy, slippy sections, loose or bouldery rocky sections. A good level of off-road running experience is required to move comfortably through this terrain.
